Vivomam is a breast screening device developed for the INFOMAM screening method. My role in the project was the complete industrial design of the device’s exterior, translating an existing technical system and its functional requirements into a mobile, manufacturable and demountable product structure.
I developed the entire outer enclosure around the internal components of the device, working with their dimensions, access requirements and spatial constraints as fixed parameters. Rather than treating the enclosure as a single shell, I designed it as a system of separate components that can be assembled and disassembled. This approach provides access to the internal equipment when required and allows individual exterior parts to be handled independently during production, assembly and maintenance.
The product architecture is organised through three visually distinct layers. A stable lower body contains the mobile base, while the upper enclosure is defined by a repeated vertical rhythm that wraps continuously around the rounded geometry. Between them, a continuous band moves around the body and integrates the Vivomam identity into the physical form. The transition of this band was developed to soften the visual mass of the device and establish a clear relationship between its upper and lower sections.
Mobility was considered as part of the product architecture rather than as an addition to it. The device is supported by integrated castors, while handles positioned around the upper perimeter provide points for manoeuvring the unit. Access panels were incorporated into the enclosure so that the internal system can be reached without compromising the overall visual continuity of the exterior.
The project continued from form development and 3D modelling through the detailing of the demountable enclosure and preparation for production. I also developed the user manual, extending the product design into the information required to understand and operate the device. The result is an exterior system designed around the technical equipment it contains, bringing mobility, accessibility, assembly and visual identity together within a single product architecture.
Special thanks to Mehmet Usta, whose craftsmanship, experience and close collaboration throughout the production process helped bring Vivomam from drawings and models into a physical product.
